Why do we become happy & positive around the new year?

Isn't 1st January just another date on the Calendar?

Why is there so much importance attached to the new year?

People could have had a rough year, faced failures, and fought uphill battles in the last 12 months. Surprisingly, on or just before 1st January, they become happy and positive and develop an optimistic outlook for the following year.

Why does this happen?

My take on this is that people realize that our life's journey is typically long, and the new year is an ideal mile-marker.

With this mile marker, it is easier for people to;
  • To measure progress & Reflect on the past
  • Plan for the future
  • Have a sense of achievement
  • Acknowledge the contributions others have made in our life
  • Pause and pray
  • Recharge determination and renew hope
  • Or start afresh.
If not, we could just go around in circles instead of moving forward.

How it all started?

1st January New Year originates from an ancient Roman custom, the feast of the Roman God Janus. He was believed to have two faces back to back. One of them looked forward to the future, while the other reflected on the past.
Janus-2
Janus was celebrated as the God of new beginnings, transitions, duality, doorways, and endings.

This tradition continues until today, and 1st of January is celebrated as the New Year.

Back to now.

So let's make the best use of this mile marker and make this year count on many fronts, including winning with money.
