Zurich’s 2025 Claims Report: A Wake-Up Call for the Uninsured

When a father doesn’t come home one evening...
Or a mother’s heart suddenly stops without warning...
Or a friend, who always seemed strong, hears the words, “It’s cancer.”

These aren’t just events. They’re disasters.

Moments of sudden disruption—tearing the fabric of life, leaving families to pick up the pieces.

They derail futures, shatter plans, and leave loved ones reeling.

Yet so many of us pretend...

“It won’t happen to us.”

🚨 According to Zurich’s claims report 2025:

🚗 6% of all death claims are from road accidents. (10% for men, 8% for women.) Many of these could have been avoided. These are people who left for work or errands and never returned home.

💔 Heart attack and stroke claims for women have jumped 50% since 2020. Smoking and stress are major contributors.

“We dug a little deeper into this and figured out that smoking as an incident has gone up in women,” said Shilpa Chitanand, Head of Retail Distribution - Zurich.

A recent study by the University College of London indicated that there is a much higher risk of heart-related ailments in smoking women as compared to smoking men. And as far as lifestyle changes are concerned, we are quite inactive in the hustle of life today.

🏥 Half of all deaths are from cancer or heart disease. This isn’t just a number—it’s a call to action.

📊 Critical illness claims far exceed death claims. The average age for a critical illness claim is 55, with many claims from people in their 30s and 40s—when responsibilities and financial pressures are at their highest.

💰 Zurich has paid over USD 241 million in claims over the last three years. 98% of all life claims were paid out.

💡 From My Experience as a Financial Advisor

In 13 years, I’ve seen the patterns. I’ve helped many clients claim for critical illnesses—heart attack, stroke, and cancer. These are survivors, dealt a tough hand, but they came out strong on the other side. At least money wasn’t a worry for them.

Fortunately, I’ve never had to process a death claim, and I hope I don’t have to for a very long time...

This tells me:

🔹 The probability of critical illness is much higher than death.
🔹 The average age for these claims is 55—when responsibilities and financial dependencies are at their peak: mortgages, kids, aging parents.
🔹 Some claims come from people in their 30s and 40s—proof that it’s never “too early” to prepare.
